I just loved the tree

Another tree

I found that due to the amount of people around I didn't want to draw anyone. The place itself is beautiful with incredible textures in the mountains.
I wanted to draw more but it's more difficult when with another person.
Also some of the best places to draw from were directly in the sun which made it too uncomfortable for me. In fact, probably dangerous, due to my red hair.
So most of these were completed from undercover while sipping freshly squeezed orange juice or the odd shandy.

finished commission

'Rhona and Luna'

Finally finished this painting, I really enjoyed doing it and learnt a lot. Spent a lot of time trying different ways of making Luna appear furry, successfully I believe.

Now to start a new painting!

I think it's time for a self-portrait. Something I've not done in a while.
I have a vague idea in my head of something that's slightly washed out, pale colours. Not quite there. A transition state, morphing from one thing to another.

dogs 'n' people

The new painting..... Just roughly done so far.
My first try at a dog.

This is the plaster sculpture for the 2nd semester brief, waiting for assessment.
I received so much help from the technician (artist/sculptor in his own right).
It was started from a rectangular block of plaster. I would really like to have completed this in stone but there was a time limit, as it is, I'm pleased with the result.

My tutor commented on the fact that seen from this angle it looks like a fist. I do agree but this was a happy accident.
This took approximately 30kg of plaster, and I had to leave it drying for a couple of weeks. ( wouldn't go in the drying space because it was too heavy for the shelves)

new pics..... finally

Everything has got a little hectic what with work and getting work finished for assessment.... plus finishing an essay.
But now ..............
Here are some of my latest pics.
Been playing around with monoprinting and having a lot of fun.
Some have been blown up to A2 size and I love them.
Obviously I'm biased but there you go.

pencil portraits

Finally finished!
I'm really pleased with it and making myself keep going was a good lesson.
Wee problem is that when I look at it on the easel, I can't quite believe I did it.
It's a little disconcerting.
Something to ponder on... why I feel like that I'm not sure.

Anyway,
makes me want to do more and that's gotta be a good thing.

new piece

This is the beginning of a 4 portrait piece.
I started it a very long time ago but had a confidence problem and was scared to carry on.
I'm quite pleased with it now.
Got to keep it up.
I seem to block myself again and again. Only to do the artwork, wonder what I was worried/scared about and feel so much better in myself.
It's almost as if I've found something I can do, something I get a great deal of satisfaction from and don't feel that I deserve it, so muck it up.
Definately got to work through this one as soon as possible.

This is for someone else and I feel I've let them down by not getting it finished ages ago.
I'm now really looking forward to handing over the finished piece.

Yes!, I can do this....
